Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS is one of the common reasons a woman cannot get pregnant. PCOS is a disorder of the female reproductive system in which multiple ovarian cysts occurs. Among the symptoms of polycystic ovarian disorder is infertility which is why women who suffer from it generally do not get pregnant.

As most people say; if there is a will, there is a way. If a woman definitely would like to get pregnant, PCOS can make this challenging. However, she can take the risk of trying to conceive by going through assisted reproduction process.

A woman who would like to have a baby may go through intrauterine insemination. This process would help a woman in getting pregnant by placing her partner’s sperm into her uterus. She may also choose to go through in-vitro fertilization process in which a woman’s egg is removed from her body and is fertilized with her partner’s sperm. Once it is already fertilized it will then be placed into her womb.

These medical procedures can be quite costly though. But if a woman would really like to experience pregnancy, a baby will definitely be worth the cost.

A woman with PCOS may also attempt to have a child with the help of fertility pills like Clomid or also generically known as Clomiphene citrate. Fertility pills help in promoting the ability to conceive.
However, along with a woman’s effort, despite the fact that she is suffering from PCOS there are risks.

It is known that women with polycystic ovarian disorder can also suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, pelvic and abdominal pain, pre-eclampsia, etc. These medical disorders are also the common causes of complicated pregnancies. If a woman is not careful enough while she is pregnant, she may just end up suffering a miscarriage which is definitely going to be more depressing.

A woman who is suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome, but is lucky enough to get pregnant, should be closely monitored by her gynecologist and obstetrician to help her have a safer pregnancy.

If a woman is trying to get pregnant by taking fertility pills, she should also be made aware that if fertility pills are taken for a long period of time, it increases the risk of ovarian cancer. It also has several side effects which may add to the risks of pregnancy.

Oftentimes, with women who are trying to get pregnant, PCOS can cause depression and a sense of hopelessness. It is vitally important to remain positive and to live a healthy lifestyle in order to have the best chance at a successful pregnancy.
